Thankfully, I am about 80% cured of my 2-day bout with influenza (or something). I didn’t leave my bed at all yesterday, and today managed a trip to the sciarc store and some model making.
I always forget how long it can take to build a precise model.
Tomorrow is back to the gym and back to my Total Health 2006™ lifestyle which has so far a) cost me money; b) given me the flu; and c) caused me to watch three Netflix movies in one day, thus fucking up my rotation and now I have 3 dvd’s in transit and none on my person.
On that note, here are some movie reviews:
24 Season 2 Discs 1 & 2: Holy motherfucker, this show is so good. Why did I think I would hate it for so long? I really, really want to be a counter-terrorist. Although, I think that this show is making me a right-winger. I find myself thinking, “maybe torture isn’t always bad” and then being really excited when Jack Bauer electrocutes someone with the hotel lamp electrical cord that he just ripped out. But then Bush and Co. go and do something stupid like give our ports away and I remember why I am not a right-winger.
The Aristocrats: Hmm. I really thought that I would like this movie. It’s about an inside joke that every comedian knows. It goes like this:
A family walks into the office of a talent agency. The agent asks “well, what do you do?”
[This is where the teller inserts his story of the most vile scatological, incestuous, gross display he can imagine]
Then the agent asks “Interesting, what do you call yourselves?”
Then the big finish, the father (or whomever) says “The Aristocrats”.
It’s an old vaudeville joke. It’s kind of funny for like 20 minutes, but then it gets repetitive and even a little demented. And for me to call anything demented… it has to be real fucked up. It is pretty funny to see how truly dirty Bob Saget really is. All in all, kind of boring.

Welcome to my room/office.
I am busy, with a capital “b” that oddly isn’t capitalized in either of the previous usages.
I decided that I waste a lot of time when I am at home trying to sleep/watch 24/play “please stop sticking your face in my mouth” with Max(imum). So I went to the sci-arc supply store and bought one of everything. I already have one of everything in my studio at school, but now I have a satellite studio at the foot of my bed.
This is important because the work is starting to come in. Aside from all of the design for school, I am working on a really great house in Northern California, Sea Ranch to be exact. I may give details on the project as they come, but for now know this: it is a good project and it will be published. I’ll up some pics of the model when I break ground/cardboard on it.
My art/architecture installation is currently on view in our Hollywood Studio which I am currently calling a gallery. And I am hoping it will be displayed in a proper gallery, but we’ll see.
I am also designing a L.A.N.D. Museum @ Vasquez Rocks. Have you been there? Dramatic landscape, interesting job to come up with a proper site response.
Also. I am Netflixing again, so recommend me some good movies.
Plus also. Does anyone know where I can get software for a Palm Treo 650 Smartphone? Like a torrent site for these things? And, does anyone know how to unlock said smartphone? Thanks in advance, unless you don’t help me.
Plus, plus also. Does anyone have extra Belle & Sebastian/New Pornographers tickets? I want to go. Comment or email.
Life is beautiful.

(Admittedly Banal) Theory behind the project:

Today I went online to pay 2 (I repeat, two) parking tickets. When I got to the page at the City of LA, I realized that I had an account. There were not two, but five parking tickets that I had to pay. Is there someone running around LA stealing parking tickets off of the windows of cars?
Long story short, I just paid $534 and got nothing in return. I decided to come home and ask Quicken Microsoft Money how much money I had spent on parking in the last year. Mind you, this is just violations not meters, garages at the mall, and $20 parking lots in Hollywood. I have spent over $1000 in parking violations in less than 365 days. Microsoft Money tells me that is just less than “Bank Fees” and just more than “Personal Trips to South America”.
Aww, city life.

The best writing in the history of television comedy is over:
Michael: I don’t like you in that way.
Tobias: What way?
Michael: Pick one.
The finale was great.

I am totally hooked on 24. I never watched it, and thought I would hate it. But now, addicted. If the architecture thing falls through, I totally want to be a counter terrorist.

The resolutions will not be televised. I have made a few of them.
Resolution A: Stop smoking. I am back on the patch. We will see how this one goes, but it is kind of part of my Total Health 2006™ package.
Resolution B: Join the gym.
Resolution C: Actually go to the gym. I have been doing this one so far. And it’s fun. I joined the Hollywood YMCA (of which I used to be a member, and I think I posted about in my archives somewhere) because they have 4 racquetball courts. I bought a new gym bag that matches my shoes that match most of my gym outfits. Supposedly, Searcy and Shellenbarger are joining this week, but who knows. If you want to stare at me, come to the Y. I’ll be the one nearly fainting on (in?) the racquetball court or the one with the gigantic lathery thing betwixt his legs in the shower.
Resolution D: Be financially smarter. This is my Achilles heel. I will spend spend spend. I blame Quicken, so I have switched to Microsoft Money in an attempt to save more. And I am up 35% on a stock that I own.
Resolution E: Wake up at 6:30AM and go to sleep by midnight. This one is in flux, but I have done it twice.
Resolution F: Eat breakfast. I am never hungry in the morning, so I have been blendering a smoothie every morning.
By the way, I turn 32 on Thursday, so holler at your boy. And I like books and money (and desk calendars). I am a size 9 to 9 1/2 shoe (42 European), 34/32 pant, medium shirts, and XXXXL Magnum condom, which you have to import from Slavic Uncircumcised nations (allow 2-3 weeks for delivery).
My Art/Architecture Life.
I am working on an installation in my Hollywood Studio. I won’t get into the theory of it right now, because I have been talking theory all day and I am exhausted. I painted for 14 hours yesterday, and my right arm is dead. It has to do with Hollywood/Rauschenberg/ Situationists/DeBord/Discarded Furniture/Grey Paint/Context and someone referred to it as Duchampian.

Greying furniture in the studio on Hollywood Blvd.

Architecture friend Ryan Klinger greying the floors for me.

Greyed pieces.

Have I told you that I have a Shih-Tzu named Max and a camera that makes eyes red?
