What I Think of “Black Friday”

Much easier than writing 1000 words.

The inaugural Swirl Smell Slurp Sunday Salon went very well. Old & new friends, food, education and, of course, wine. Thanks to all who came. If you weren’t able to come, you should try to make it to our next one. Cheers.

We went to Palm Springs this weekend. We wrote about it twice, and I don’t feel like writing anymore. Read about here:

Last night we went to the private “open” house for restaurateurs at Bouchon Beverly Hills (We went as Canelé). First things first, every bite of food I put in my mouth was terrific. Thomas Keller (pictured abovem he’s the blob to the left in the terrible photo) greeted every guest at the door and was a very gracious host. The restaurant looks great.
But.
One of the things I love about the Bouchon in Yountville is that the restaurant itself is fancy and the food delicious, but the clientele are different. There are people who work in the vineyards sitting at the bar in dirty denim. Beverly Hills, by geographical nature, is much different. I don’t really go to BH, nor do I care to. I will probably go back to Bouchon to see what it’s like when it’s open. Maybe.
And.
We are going to Palm Springs this weekend to celebrate our anniversary.
We are thinking about going to Santa Cruz to celebrate Thanksgiving.
We are planning to take a road trip to Texas to celebrate Christmas. And maybe visit Marfa.
Look at me go.

I’ve been told by my lovely girlfriend that it’s important that we post on all three of our blogs daily. I concur.
I know I always write about how much I neglect this particular blog, so I won’t neglect or write about neglecting it anymore. Starting now.
My Advice of the Day:
Don’t put things off. When I was in school I thought I was too busy to take classes like public speaking. So, technically I still don’t have my college degree. I learned that if I didn’t finish these classes by the end of this semester that I would have to re-apply for graduation under the current university catalog, which would probably result in having to take additional classes.
So here I am, a 35 year old going to a community college (where I used to be a teacher, no less) sitting in a classroom with people young enough to be my children. If it was a class I was interested in that would be one thing. This is a class mandated by the state of California taught at a community college; yeah, it’s just as exciting as it sounds. Ten more class meetings to go.
Other than that, life is good. We are still making things at our design firm and drinking things for our wine blog. This weekend we are off to Palm Springs for our anniversary love-making getaway.
See you back here tomorrow, this ain’t as easy as it used to be.
